Retired Secretary AMM Nasir Uddin has been appointed as Chief Election Commissioner. President Md. Sahabuddin gave this appointment as his constitutional power. At the same time, he has appointed four more election commissioners.

Thursday 21st November Cabinet Secretary Dr. The chief election commissioner and other election commissioners were appointed in two separate notifications signed by Sheikh Abdur Rashid.

The new Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin is a BCS 1979 batch administration cadre officer. He was the Secretary of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Ministry of Health. He retired in January 2009.

The other four commissioners are:

1. Additional Secretary (Retired) Md. Anwarul Islam government.

2. District and Sessions Judge (Retired) Abdur Rahmanel Masud.

3. Joint Secretary (Retd) Begum Tahmida Ahmed.

4. Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah.

Before this, a six-member search committee was formed under the leadership of Judge Zubair Rahman Chowdhury of the Appellate Division on October 29 in the reorganization of the Election Commission. The committee scrutinized and sent a list of 10 people to the President’s office on Wednesday, November 20. The President appointed one Chief Election Commissioner and four Election Commissioners from among them.

Kazi Habibul Awal Commission appointed on February 27, 2022 during the previous Awami League government resigned together on September 5. Since then, the Election Commission was vacant for about three and a half months.
