Mamunur Rashid asked for his resignation within a month of taking charge

Within a month of taking charge, the convening committee has sent a letter to Bangladesh Group Theater Federation asking for exemption citing ‘procedural conflict of work’.

In order to reorganize and reform the Bangladesh Group Theater Federation, the chief actor-director of the convening committee, Mamunur Rashid, has expressed his desire to resign.

In a letter sent to the central committee on Tuesday, Mamunur Rashid said he sought his exemption. He confirmed the authenticity of this letter to the media.

Convening Committee member Prof. Malay Bhowmick said in this regard, this convening committee was made in the general meeting of the federation. But the place of work is not compatible with the central committee. So we asked for exemption.

On October 25th, a five-member convening committee headed by Mamunur Rashid was formed in the executive and general council meeting of the federation. Other members of the committee are Professor Malay Bhowmik, Ahmad Iqbal Haider, Nader Chowdhury and Nazneen Hasan Chumki.

In that meeting, it was decided to retain the central committee of the federation, but the president Liaquat Ali Lucky was expelled and senior presidium member Lucky Inam was given the responsibility of acting president.

Malay Bhowmik said that during the formation of the convening committee, it was said that all decisions will be taken by this committee and the central committee will only work on a routine basis. But now there is a systemic conflict of work with the central committee.

He further said that it is not possible for the convening committee to perform its duties smoothly in such a situation. We are of the opinion that a new committee should be formed with qualified persons excluding the existing members.

The convening committee was approved by the representatives of 191 theater organizations present at the general meeting of the federation. However, Malay Bhowmik said that the activities of the convening committee are being hindered due to the lack of coordination of work.

Expressing concern about the future of the federation, he said that the way of running the federation should be found in a beautiful and smooth manner. Therefore, formation of new leadership is the demand of time.

Discussions are going on in the concerned circles about how this internal crisis of the Group Theater Federation will be resolved in the future.
