The car of Barrister Shahjahan Omar, the former vice chairman of BNP and current Awami League-backed member of parliament, was attacked and vandalized in Rajapur, Jhalkathi.
The attack took place in Rajapur Upazila on Thursday, November 21st morning. After going to the police station for the case, the police instead arrested him.
It is known that on Wednesday evening the leaders and activists of Rajapur Upazila BNP held a protest march against Barrister Shahjahan Omar. A group broke away from the procession and attacked the residence of his upazila headquarters. Bricks were thrown there and the windows were broken.
When he tried to enter Rajapur on Thursday morning, BNP workers attacked him across the Baribari border in North Pingri area. His private car was damaged in the attack and he was injured. Forced to take the marginal route through the village, Sangar took shelter in the village house.
The situation became more complicated when he went to Rajapur police station around 10:30 in the morning and wanted to file a case on the charge of car vandalism.
Upazila BNP activists surrounded the police station and blocked it. At that time, the police arrested him on the basis of a case of Kathalia police station.
Barrister Shahjahan Omar said, I was attacked on my way to work at my sister’s cemetery. Vandalized the car and made it completely unusable. I am also injured. The wish was to attend the Armed Forces Day function at Lebukhali Cantonment after finishing the homework, but now that is not possible as there is no car.
When I went to file a case at the police station, the police arrested me and told me that there is a case in my name at the Kathalia police station. But I did not know anything about this case before, said this brave freedom fighter.
Additional Superintendent of Police Muhitul Islam said that Barrister Shahjahan Omar was arrested in a regular case of Kathalia police station. The process of investigating the proven allegations against him is going on.
